Paper Measurement - Caliper
Date: Dec 3, 2002
Paper
thickness is defined as Caliper. It is measured in 1/1000 of an inch and expressed
as Point Size. (Note that points describing caliper of paper are not the same
as points describing size of type and font)
One Point
equals 0.001 inch. Stock called 10 point is 0.010 inches thick and abbreviated
10pt. People may also use Point Size for describing the thickness of phone cards
or other plastic card products.
Point size
is very important when you talk about postal service. For example, in U.S.,
postcards must be at least 7pt.
