Black and White Photos

To
get good halftones, start with good originals. Look for full tonal range and
good contrast. Good originals show details in their highlights (lightest areas)
and shadows (darkest areas). Photo with too much contrast may lack detail. Low-contrast
images reproduce as flat and lifeless. Images made on fast films or inexpensive
digital cameras may not look sharp when enlarged.
