Continuous Tones to Halftones

for reproduction must be changed from continuous tones to halftones before a
printer can reproduce them on printing press. Halftones consist of a lot of
tiny dots that create an illusion of the original image. The pattern of dots
tricks the eye into thinking it sees continuous tones.
In the areas of the image with small dots creating highlights; the portions
of the image with large dots show less paper, reproducing shadow area.
