Continuous Tones to Halftones

Date: Dec 2, 2002

Images for reproduction must be changed from continuous tones to halftones before a printer can reproduce them on printing press. Halftones consist of a lot of tiny dots that create an illusion of the original image. The pattern of dots tricks the eye into thinking it sees continuous tones.

In the areas of the image with small dots creating highlights; the portions of the image with large dots show less paper, reproducing shadow area.
